buildingSMART® alliance International Symposium

Monday, December 8, 2008
Time:  9:00 am – 12:00 pm

buildingSMART® alliance is the North American chapter of a worldwide coalition of nearly 30 countries arranged into 13 chapters. This conference is of interest to many of them to get a feel for what is going on in North America. We would like to hold an orientation to the conference on Monday morning prior to the conference start for our international visitors who may be planning to attend the conference and have arrived early to take advantage of some weekend sightseeing in Washington DC. This will also provide an opportunity to discuss some of the issues that are taking place in the various chapters in a less formal environment.

* Free to those attending

Keynote Address:

Smart ALECs (Architects Leading Enterprise Creation)
The Integration of Politics and BIM Technology

Ambassador Richard N. Swett, FAIA
Vice President and the Managing Principal - Washington Office
LEO A. DALY

Date: Thursday, December 11, 2008

buildingSMART® Alliance Overview:

In 2007 the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) Board of Directors unanimously approved the buildingSMART®  alliance charter created to spearhead technical, political, and financial support for advanced digital technology in the real property industry—from concept, design and construction through operations and management.

The new public/private initiative expands on goals of the North American Chapter of the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI-NA), whose Industry Foundation Classes (IFCs) have initiated open standards for national and international links among industry players, and will serve developers and users of Building Information Models (BIMs), the digital tools that are increasingly helping to share highly accurate information throughout a facility’s life cycle.
